One of the aims of Balksbury Infant School (see Prospectus) is to invest in Health to assist in the process of raising levels of pupil achievement and improving standards.
We have achieved Enhanced Healthy Schools Standard.
We begin each day with a 5 minute aerobic session (which we encourage parents to join in with) followed by sessions at the end of morning and lunchtime play. The School is taking part in the Government’s Initiative for Free Fruit For Schools – every child receives a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable every day. In addition we can provide free milk for children up to 5 years of age and for ages 5 -7 for a small charge.
We encourage children to bring a water bottle with them each day. It has been proven that
drinking water regularly can help:
· Improve mental performance
· Increase concentration as children are less distracted
· Reduce tiredness and irritability
· Improve general health
· Promote healthy skin and fresh breath
School lunches are provided by the kitchen at the Junior School, and our cooks ensure that meals meet the high standards insisted on by HCC. If children bring packed lunches to school we make sure that nothing is thrown away in order that parents can monitor what their children are eating.
Our Science and PSHE curriculum has units of work on Healthy Eating and all children are taught what constitutes a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Emotional Health and wellbeing is addressed too, in our PSHE curriculum, our work with RRR and our Values led curriculum.
